Advocacy for Technology Regulation

Technology has transformed how young people connect, learn, and communicate. However, constant and unregulated screen use is beginning to impact focus, mental well-being, and real-life relationships. I have observed how excessive phone use can reduce attention spans, limit meaningful interaction, and contribute to feelings of isolation. I believe the issue is not technology itself, but how it is used. The challenge is creating a balance that allows students to benefit from technology without losing genuine human connection.

Technology -- My Perspective

I view technology as a powerful tool that has become essential in shaping how young people learn and interact. However, without clear boundaries, it can quickly shift from being a tool to becoming a distraction. Many students are not taught how to manage their screen use, which leads to habits that impact focus, productivity, and mental well-being. In my perspective, the issue is not access to technology, but the lack of awareness and intentional use. Developing this awareness is key to helping students build a healthier and more balanced relationship with technology.

My Vision

I envision a school environment where students are not controlled by their devices, but are instead in control of how they use them. My goal is to create a culture where technology supports learning, strengthens relationships, and coexists with meaningful, real-life connection. By promoting balance rather than restriction, I hope to help students become more present, focused, and confident in both academic and social settings.

My Approach

I believe meaningful change should be student-led and rooted in awareness rather than strict enforcement. While policies can support focus, long-term impact comes from helping students understand their own habits and make intentional choices. By encouraging reflection and open conversations, students can begin to take ownership of their technology use and build healthier routines that support their well-being.

My Initiatives

As a Youth Champion, I plan to lead peer discussions that encourage students to reflect on their screen habits and share strategies for maintaining balance. I aim to create awareness campaigns that promote mindful social media use and highlight its connection to mental health. I will also organize engaging, device-free activities that encourage students to reconnect with one another. In addition, I hope to support balanced school approaches, such as structured phone-free times, while still recognizing the importance of technology in education.

Impact

Through these efforts, I hope to help students improve their focus, strengthen their relationships, and develop healthier habits that support their mental well-being. By fostering a more balanced approach to technology, I aim to contribute to a school culture where students feel more connected, present, and engaged in their daily lives.
